Circle

FAQ

USDC is issued and managed by Circle, a US-based organization that seeks to prioritize compliance with regulatory standards and transparency.

Dollar reserves are reported both by Circle and through independent assessors, which has led to USDC being considered one of the most trusted and transparent stablecoin projects in the crypto space.

USDC reserves are highly liquid and can be made quickly available when customers need to convert. They are held in the custody of reputable financial institutions to ensure trust, transparency and availability.

Yes, this token is the real USDC issued natively on Ethereum by Circle. It is redeemable for dollars and can be used with the official Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) to exchange for native USDC on other supported networks.

Bridged versions of USDC issued by third parties are also present on many networks but are not backed by dollars and therefore cannot be redeemed in the same way as official native USDC. These can be swapped for native USDC or exchanged for other cryptocurrencies using Matcha. While they will not work with CCTP, you can use cross chain swaps to move your bridged USDC across networks in exchange for real USDC.

USDC is one of the most popular stablecoins by volume. It is issued by a US-based company and in line with local US regulations. USDC is 100% backed by real world assets and directly redeemable for US dollars.

Circle holds money transmitter or equivalent licenses in 45 U.S. states and territories, and operates in three more where no license is required. The only states not covered by these licenses are New York and Hawaii.

Regular users can exchange USDC for USD using a qualified exchange such as Coinbase, or swap for other tokens using Matcha. Circle does not serve individuals directly. Circle’s primary focus is on serving institutional and enterprise-level businesses, who can redeem USDC for US dollars at a 1:1 ratio using Circle Mint.

Native USDC is compatible with Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) which is an efficient way to bridge native USDC across networks. USDC can also be transferred to other networks using Matcha’s cross-chain swap feature.

USDC is issued natively on 15 blockchain networks. On Matcha, USDC is available on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, and Avalanche.

Native USDC can also be found on Algorand, Flow, Hedera, NEAR, Noble, Polkadot, Solana, Stellar, TRON.

Other networks do not support native USDC. Circle has launched a Bridged USDC Standard to allow selected bridged versions on unsupported networks to later be upgraded to official USDC but is not obliged to do so.
